The Moscow Tug of War Federation (MFPK) was founded in 2008, after the Russian Ministry of Sport recognized tug of war as a sport. The federation was headed by Boris Vladimirovich Grishin. In its first years, the MFPK focused on the initial training of referees and coaches. To this end, MFPK representatives completed training courses organized by the St. Petersburg Tug of War Federation, as well as courses organized by the Tug of War International Federation (TWIF) in Latvia.
Later, the MFPK's main activity centered on providing basic coaching and refereeing support for numerous mass city and corporate events. An archive of some of the events in which the MFPK took part is available in the news feed.
In 2012, the MFPK selected a men's team in the open category for the first national championship, and it took an honorable third place.
In 2017, Alexander Alexandrovich Kuznetsov became head of the MFPK. A sports development program through 2021 was drawn up, and accreditation from Moscomsport (Moscow City Sports Committee) was obtained. In addition to continuing its support of mass sports events, the MFPK plans to raise the sporting side of its work to a new level of quality.
The MFPK's sporting activity is closely tied to the development and plans of the RTWF. In 2018, the city teams took an active part in national competitions:
1. Russian Championship 2018 (St. Petersburg): 4th place, men, open weight category.
2. Russian Cup 2018 (Penza): 3rd place, mixed category up to 600 kg.
3. Russian Youth Championship 2018 (Penza): 1st place, mixed category up to 560 kg.
In 2019, Moscow teams will compete in all national and federal district events in accordance with the 2019 Regulations of the Russian Ministry of Sport.
