Tug of war becomes one of the most popular venues at the 30th All-Russian Olympic Day celebrations in Luzhniki

On July 16, 2019, a sports festival dedicated to the 30th All-Russian Olympic Day, the 125th anniversary of the International Olympic Committee and the upcoming 2nd European Games in Minsk was held at the Luzhniki complex.

During the festival, anyone could put together their own team or join a combined team to take part in the tug of war tournament run by the Moscow Federation. In addition, the venue was one of the checkpoints of a quest, and participants who completed it received prizes. Experienced coaches introduced the participants to the technique, gave them practical skills and checked that the tasks were performed correctly.

As a reminder, tug of war was part of the Olympic Games program at the beginning of the 20th century. Today the sport is on the program of the World Games, and the Tug of War International Federation (TWIF), a member of the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF), is seeking the return of tug of war to the Olympic program.
