IWGA marks 40 years since its founding!
The IWGA is the International World Games Association, which brings together sports federations of non-Olympic sports.
In 1980, a group of 12 international sports federations joined forces and formed the World Games Council, later renamed the International World Games Association (IWGA). Today the World Games are the IWGA's sports event, held under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and, like the Olympic Games, they are an international sporting event that brings together the world's top-ranked athletes.
The next World Games will take place on July 7–17, 2022 in Birmingham (USA).
Tug of war is a permanent part of the World Games program. The tournament at the World Games is one of the most prestigious in world tug of war. The competitions are held outdoors, and teams are selected based on their results at the World Championships. Qualification for the 2022 Games will take place at the World Championships to be held in 2021 in Getxo (Basque Country, Spain).
