Tug of War International Federation holds a seminar for Eastern European countries.

The Tug of War International Federation (TWIF) held a seminar for Eastern European countries. The seminar for referees and coaches took place at the Olympic Center in Ventspils on May 19–20, 2012. The participating countries were Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Serbia and Russia. The largest delegation, from Russia, was represented by the Russian Tug of War Federation (RTWF). The sessions were conducted by TWIF President Cathal McKeever and England national team head coach John Webb. All the organizational work was carried out by the Latvian Tug of War Federation with the support of the local Velkonis tug of war club. At the end of the seminar, participants received international certificates. In his closing remarks, TWIF President Cathal McKeever said that TWIF was making every effort to return tug of war to the program of the Olympic Games and called on everyone to provide whatever assistance they could. The main problem, as with many other sports, is insufficient media exposure. A separate meeting took place between the presidents of TWIF, Cathal McKeever, and the RTWF, Alexander Kuznetsov. The TWIF President congratulated the Russian federation on its accreditation by the Russian Ministry of Sport and promised separate methodological support in preparing the national team. Agreement was reached on holding a special seminar for Russia in September–October 2012.
